Welcome to UPDATE!
Hello, everyone! Welcome to UPDATE, a blog for our First Tulsa Adventist Church family and guests. This blog features local church news and information along with words of inspiration for your encouragement. We would like to include praise reports from our church family and friends as well. Even during challenging times such as these, we all have many things to be thankful for. If the Lord has blessed you in a special way recently, please share it with our church family! Email a paragraph or two about your special blessing to our church email address: email@example.com. Thank you!
GUEST SPEAKER: The guest speaker for our online church service on March 28 will be Pastor Jim Brown. Pastor Brown served 36 years as a Seventh-day Adventist minister before retiring in 2010. Pastor Brown pastored in Oklahoma for 12 years in various locations, then spent the remainder of his ministry in the Potomac Conference— 5 years at Lynchburg, Virginia, and 19 years at the Seabook SDA Church in Lanham, Maryland. He has been married to Nedra Goodwin Brown (alumna of TAA) for 52 years. Pastor and Mrs. Brown have three children and six grandchildren. They say they are “happy to be back in Oklahoma.”
DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING: In addition to ongoing prayer about the Coronavirus situation, the Oklahoma Conference has designated March 28 to be a special day of prayer and fasting in regard to the COVID-19 situation.
100 DAYS OF PRAYER: The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is sponsoring 100 Days of Prayer. From March 27 – July 4, 2020 join Seventh-day Adventists all around the world in praying for the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to be poured out on our church, to empower us for mission, and to be a light to the world during this time of crisis. God's Comforting Promises:
Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster has passed. –- Psalm 57:1
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. — Psalm 91:1-3
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. — Romans 8:28
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. — 1 Peter 5:6,7
For He has not despised or distained the suffering of the afflicted one; He has not hidden His face from him but has listened to his cry for help. — Psalm 22:24
Our family has many things to be thankful for. We have something special to celebrate this week, though. One of our grandson's roommate's co-workers recently traveled outside the US and, after returning to work, began to feel ill (our grandson's roommate got sick also). He thought he might have the Coronavirus, but the COVID-19 test was negative. We are praising the Lord for the co-worker's recovery and the negative Coronavirus test! -- Bruce & Judi Carrico
